This is a great family website. Several of your photos I have seen collected by my cousin Delois Woodruff of Olive Branch MS. My brother Army Joe Leake Sr, and my cousin Delois Woodruff mentioned the following names Bessie Holloway, James Henry Snook Leake, and Grady Bud Leake. I remember an aunt Bessie arriving on the train in St. Louis Mo during the 1960's I live in Florida and my father is Joe Leake from Gunnison MS.

Hi there!  We are the Leakes from Toronto/Windsor, Canada.  Our ancestor, John Leake, was from New Jersey, and fought for the Crown in the Revolutionary War.  He settled in New Brunswick originally.  We are now scattered.  Where is your branch connected?  I LOVE your website!!
I am browsing through the categories and love the layout.  Keep up the great work you do for all Leakes everywhere!!

You can see by my name, we share it in common.  The Leake's in my family came frm England in the late 15th Century.  In this country, their names start showing up in Virginia, later in Carswell County, North Carolina, Laurens County, South Carolina, then to Cass County (now called Bartow County), Georgia.  I've found records, wills, testaments of some of lives, mainly in Laurens County, SC and Bartow County, GA.  Sadly, these ancestors of mine owned slaves.  Too often, when drawing up their Last Will & Testament, a recurring theme is shown, which goes something like this: "When the Good Lord calls me home, I expect to be put away in the style & custom befitting my station in life.  To pay for this, sell my Negro Annabel..."  Too sad, too inexplainable.  How could these God-Fearing people reconcile their actions with their commitment to living Christian lives.  How very sad.  I congratulate your extended family's toil and effort to put forth an excellent legacy for your kinships.  An excellend website.  The fact that you and I share the name "Leake", indicates somewhere in the past, there was a relationship between my ancestors and yours.  Unfortunately, it was heirarchial, not horizontal.  However, a change has come and today, we who share the Leake name do so in an even, side-by-side basis.  No master, no slave.  Only God's people doing the best we can in this life, loving our neighbors and looking forward to a great reward.

This is very interesting!  I would be very curious to know why the name was changed to Leake.  I am a descendant of Joseph "Freejoe" Harris of Eads, TN.  He married a woman named Fanny Leake who was owned by Col Samuel Leake who fought in the civil war.  Some of our family names include....Leake, Anderson and Rice which I also see in your heritage.

This website is a wonderful idea.  I have showed some of my friends and coworkers and they have been very impressed.  Some are suggesting for their families to start one.

I just want to say that this is an awesome tribute to your loved ones. Fannie and I were close friends for about 10 years and I just can't believe she is no longer with us.  She is a someone I will never forget( such a dear friend). I know longer reside in TN and was unable to attend the services. I just want to send a special prayer request to Earl and John Robert. Just know that GOD will heal your broken hearts.
